Opting for window replacements for your home is a great way to enhance the curb appeal of your residence without having to engage in extensive renovations. Additionally, if you live in an older home with conventional window glass, window replacements give you a chance to upgrade to energy efficient windowpanes. This can greatly reduce on your home's monthly utility bills, hence making window replacements a worthwhile investment. If you are considering window replacements, you will find that there is an array of designs to choose from. Your decision will largely depend on your budget as well as personal taste. Here are some of the various designs of window replacements you could consider for your home.

Double hung window designs

If you are looking for a classic window design, double hung windows would be a great choice for your home. These windows are composed of an upper and a lower sash giving you the option to either leave them both open or open one of them at a time. They are especially great for homeowners living in warmer climates as warm air can escape from the upper sash that is closer to the ceiling while cold air comes in through the lower sash. If keeping your windows clean is a concern for you, opt for double hung windows whose sashes open inward. This decreases the amount of dust they are exposed to from the outdoors, which reduces the amount of cleaning and maintenance they would need.

Sliding window designs

If convenience your foremost concern when considering widow replacements, then sliding window designs would be right up your alley. The windows are composed of glass panels that have been installed within a frame that has movable tracks at both the top and the bottom. These are the easiest windows to operate, as all you need to do is slide them from left to right or vice versa. The bigger the window panels of your sliding windows, the more ventilation your residence will receive. It should be noted though that if you have younger children and are installing large sliding windows, you should also consider having a security screen or grill installed to prevent any unfortunate incidences.

Accent window designs

This type of window design is suited to homeowners who are looking to make their home stand out with unique window designs. These windows come in various shapes rather than the conventional square or rectangular window frame. They offer a wider visual variety and can greatly increase the aesthetics of a home. It should be noted that these windows are primarily designed for aesthetics rather than functionality; therefore, some may not open to provide ventilation. However, you can opt to have them customised to meet your individual needs.

About Me
Getting some more privacy

I love how much light our house gets, but the people who were living before us must have been very open with the whole street knowing what they were up to at all times. I've never lived somewhere where so many rooms have really large windows - including the bathroom! We are slowly getting the glass replaced from plain glass panes into frosted and patterned glass so that we keep getting all of that lovely light in but so that the whole neighbourhood doesn't get to see us. This blog has before and after picture of the rooms in our house as we do the glass replacements.
